Chloe's First Accident

Chloe has been a little monkey lately! She climbs nearly everything and is quite successful! Yesterday morning I was doing the dishes, I was just about done.

"Mom!" Kelson yelled.
I looked up from the dishwasher and there stood Chloe above the counter top on the back of the chair. My heart pounded. Her face look frightened as she fell backwards to the ground. The sound of a bowling ball hitting the floor echoed our bare apartment. My heart twisted and my stomach dropped knowing that it was her head that hit the hardwood floor with the chair falling on top of her with a thud. She shrieked in terror and pain. I dropped the dish from my hand and raced over to her, water still running. My heart ached seeing her pinned with her face stretched down, head turned to the side and crocodile tears streaming her face while a blood curdling scream exited her wide open mouth. Once I lifted the beast that had my precious baby trapped, the blood started dripping and pooling under her eye! Instantly I knew. Stitches.

I called a friend of mine who luckily only lives in the building next to us. With in two minutes she was there to help me! Melody was willing to watch the boys for the time Chloe and I would be gone. It was a blessing she was available. I held Chloe in my arms as she laid there limp and helpless as i ran around the house grabbing items like a towel for the blood, a binki, and insurance cards.

On the way to the hospital I called Eric while he was at work. It was a blessing that he was able to leave work to meet me at the hospital! Chloe had fallen asleep on the way, when she woke up upon arrival she was nice and calm. She was so excited when she got to see her daddy.

Dr Cox (who I hear about in passing in pbx) is a wonderful doctor! Chloe had been quiet and calm this whole time; she allowed him to evaluate her and touch her without even a flinch. He ordered a CT based on the location of the goose egg on the back of her head and the way she was acting.

Dr Cox and the trauma surgeon reviewed the results, Chloe's skull had fractured! Huge blessing that there's no brain damage. No internal bleeding and no swelling, just the fracture! From there they sedated her, it only took four stitches. It was another blessing that her cut was a clean slice, no jagged edges, and will heal nicely and not be so noticeable! My heart rejoiced to hear those words!

Quetiapine, also known as 'Special K', is a crazy drug! It's what they used to sedate her. It's a shot in the leg, 90 seconds to take effect and she's gone! Not asleep, more like the lights are on but no one is home. It was creepy. This is her coming out of it, this picture just breaks my heart! She wasn't able to focus on anything for the longest time and she sounded like a broke record, which is completely normal.

They kept us for observation for a couple hours, making sure her condition didn't change. Finally, after several hours at the hospital, they discharged her and we headed home! I will never forget the sad, concerned nervous look Kelson had on his face when he saw Chloe's stitches. "I'm so sorry she had to get stitches! Poor Chloe! She looks so sad." He kept saying. Jay was preoccupied with playing in the kiddie pool the neighbor had. A friend of mine, Johnie, was so thoughtful and took care of dinner for us. An other blessing!

In case you're wondering, this incident has not slowed her down or made her more precautous. She still tries to climb everything, makes our hearts skip a beat thinking she's going to fall and runs around the house without a care in the world.

The first night was rough. She couldn't stay comfortable and relaxed, I can't imagine the pain she must be feeling... As of today, she is in great spirits and being her happy go lucky self! Her eye is more poofy than yesterday, but it's adorable!

In the end, we had many blessing pour over us! We are so thankful for all the love, support and service we received. Xoxoxoxoxoxox
