Christmas Decorating!

Monday night we finally broke out the Christmas box for FHE. They boys were so excited! We tried explaining the true meaning of Christmas. They took it as Jesus was born on Christmas, not that Christ was born and that is why we celebrate Christmas. They will get it when they are older, for now we will stick the basics. They have such sweet spirits and big loving hearts.

Halloween

Day of the Dead

-Part 3-

This year, Halloween didn't turn out as great as we would have liked... For those who ever want to be a mummy for Halloween, talk to me first! I will certainly tell you the Do's and Don'ts. It will save you a lot of time, frustration and heart ache. My costume fell apart and we put it back on... twice! At that point we had missed the trick-or-treat at the mall... We jumped int he car and drove to the rec center for their carnival... The boys had 2 treats from playing 2 games when we decided to go through the 'haunted house' and that's where we really went wrong... At this point, Kelson had sharted, twice. Jayson wanted to go home. Chloe was so exhausted and hungry, all she could do was cry. After waiting in line forever (if we had known it would take that long we wouldn't have gotten in line) we left.  We went and picked up JCW's and went home.  We all snuggled on the couch watching a scary movie and fell asleep! We planned on leaving the rec center and going tick-or-treating, but with Kelson sharting we thought it would be best to just go home... No trick-or-treating for these spooky monsters. I felt terrible! Luckily, the boys are young enough they didn't get upset! Also, we had done some Halloween things leading up to Halloween so they had some candy and fun activities to do!

Monday night we hopped on over the in Autrey's front yard and painted pumpkins! I bet you can't guess who's whose!

I'm all for painting pumpkins, carving is just so much work. Eric and I figured we will paint until the boys request to carve! Hopefully at that time they can do most of the work on their pumpkin themselves. Until then...

Garden After Dark @ Red Butte Garden in SLC

Garden After Dark

Featuring Grandma Lori

We went to the Garden After Dark with Grandma Lori over the weekend! For those of you that don't know what it is, it's a journey through (The Red Butte Garden) King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table.We explored the garden discovering more about the people and places of Camelot. (This year's theme) If you have never been to the Garden, its on the hill side up by the U of U. A winding walk path takes you to several gardens, each with its own uniqueness. It was great fun to dress the kids up and enjoy activities, crafts and light displays.

We walked through the dark path (a little spooky for the boys, which they loved), entered each hut and learn about their magical potions, signs of the shield, aromatherapy and much more! At the end of the adventure, they taught us how to dance the way this did during that time. All the crew was dressed up from that era and danced and sang as we passed them on our journey.

The stops along the way included:

• My favorite 'garden' was covered in black lights called Journey to Avalon, also known as the Island of Apples! Glow in the dark apples dangled all over in the trees. They had people playing a tune on the drums and glow in the dark bubbles! If I remember correctly, it was about the different plants they had and used for many different things back then. I also thought the set up was more 'spooky' than the other gardens. 

• At Arthur Armory they made a shield and decorated them with stamps.
• At Merlin's Cave they made special potion that glows in the dark! They put it in a vial to keep around their neck. It helps to keep the monsters away, or at least that's what we told the kids. Hahaha 
• The Quest for the Holy Grail was a fun maze we all went through.
• At Guinevere's Meadow, the boys put together a sachet full of herbs such as rose, lavender and a couple others I wasn't familiar with! These are to be used if you get injured and fortify your courage!
• The boys' favorite was probably the Camelot Castle (Children's Garden/Sprout House). They had wire tunnels covered in orange lights, a fireman pole to slide down, and giant lizards to climb on! They also decorated a crown with autumn leaves. (We actually skipped that activity, they were having too much fun running around!)

We were given four tickets to the great CornBelly's! We hadn't ever been there before and couldn't pass up this opportunity to go! It's like Jaker's Pumpkin Patch, but on steroids! The photo's will tell you the kind of things they have there!

                                                                 

Big ol' monster looking thing! We wondered through it's guts and came out it's pooper! lol It was completely dark in some of the spots and strobe lights in others! The boys got nervous but thought it was awesome

Minor League Halloween Carnival

The activity day girls in our ward put on a Halloween Carnival for the kids in the neighborhood! They themselves came up with games and decorations; they ran the games and gave out prizes. It was a great practice run for the boys' costumes for the real Halloween night.
